YouTube Shorts Monetization
The YouTube Shorts fund, a scheme via which the best Shorts artists might be compensated for their work, was introduced by YouTube in August 2021. Similar to TikTok’s $1 billion creator fund, YouTube stated this would be a mechanism to “monetize and reward artists for their work” and would be a $100 million fund disbursed between 2021 and 2022. The fund is “only a stopgap until YouTube builds a long-term revenue and support tool for short-form producers,” according to a statement from YouTube to The Hollywood Reporter. This tool will be “modeled after but distinct from” its Partner Program. YouTube received offers ranging from $100 to $10,000 per month to over 3,000 creators when the fund was made available.
